Retrofit of Existing Reinforced Concrete (RC) Buildings: Steel vs. RC Exoskeletons

نویسندگان

چکیده

The existing building stock is largely made up of reinforced concrete (RC) buildings, constructed between the post-World War II period and 1981, mostly consists buildings very quickly to meet great housing demand this period, that do not adhere anti-seismic energy regulations. Today, after more than fifty years, these have reached end their useful life cycle maintenance sustainable, presenting a series structural, architectural problems criticalities. myriad possible retrofit interventions currently available for RC structures drastically reduces when main requirement avoid operational interruptions buildings. In case, an additive structure, operating exclusively from outside as exoskeleton, typically used achieving appropriate retrofit. paper, two solutions are proposed addressed in Italy, one through application steel exoskeleton other system. A set push-over (PO) analyses carried out define performance point both original combined systems. comparative results then discussed.

Seismic Vulnerability Assessment of Existing Rc Buildings in Gis Environment

With rapid population growth over the past 30 years and no significance seismic activity during this period, the unchecked development of the built environment in Bangladesh has been resulted in little resilience to earthquake. Identifying buildings due to this unchecked development that has high vulnerability is of critical importance both for reliable loss estimation as a result of an expecte...

A Comparative Analysis of Decision Making Methods for the Seismic Retrofit of Rc Buildings

Several different technical options are nowadays available to seismically upgrade an existing building. Selecting the best one with reference to a given structure generally represents a complex problem. In fact many and generally conflicting are also the points of view by which each alternative has to be judged. Decision support systems like the so called Multi Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) m...

Probabilstic Seismic Risk Evaluation of Rc Buildings

As more and more emphasis is being laid on non-linear analysis of RC framed structures subjected to earthquake excitation, the research and development on both non-linear static (pushover) analysis as well as nonlinear dynamic (time history)analysis is in the forefront. Due to prohibitive computational time and efforts required to perform a complete nonlinear dynamic analysis, researchers and d...

Fragility Curves of Existing RC Buildings Based on Specific Structural Performance Levels

In seismic risk mitigation policies, fragility functions of existing buildings play a fundamental role. In this paper, a procedure to develop analytical fragility curves for Moment Resisting Frame Reinforced Concrete buildings is presented. The design of the selected building typologies was performed according to the codes at the time of construction using force-based methods and the state of t...
